What's in this Safeguarding Training Pack: Full Year?

This pack provides six half-termly safeguarding training sets, each built around a core safeguarding theme. Topics and resources have been carefully chosen and sequenced to ensure broad, balanced coverage across the year, cross-referenced against KCSIE 2026 Part One and Annex A. The majority of resources are fully editable (excluding the PDFs) so you can adapt content to reflect your school's context, community or current concerns.

Each half-term includes four resource types:

☑️ Safeguarding Training PowerPoint (.pptx) – A staff-facing safeguarding training presentation covering the half-term theme, with built-in discussion activities and knowledge check questions. Designed for delivery in a staff meeting, briefing or INSET session, each presentation is written to guide the session without requiring the DSL to be a subject expert. Delivering it at the start of a half-term sets the context for the scenarios, snapshots and quizzes that follow.

☑️ Safeguarding Scenarios (.docx) – Fictional case studies written from a staff member's perspective, designed to prompt discussion and help staff apply their safeguarding knowledge to realistic situations. Each scenario includes four guided discussion prompts and a separate page of DSL commentary covering key concerns, next steps and reflective discussion points. Five scenarios are included per half-term. Primary and secondary versions are available.

☑️ Safeguarding Snapshots (.pdf) – One-page overviews of specific safeguarding issues, covering signs and indicators, who may be at greater risk and suggested actions for staff. Five snapshots are included per half-term. Use them as e-bulletins, display them in staff areas, share them in briefings or add them to your intranet – they complement the PowerPoint and scenarios by giving staff a focused, regular look at individual safeguarding areas throughout the half-term.

☑️ Quick Quizzes (.docx) – Short, editable multiple-choice quizzes to check staff knowledge and retention. Three quizzes are included per half-term. Use them via Google Forms or Microsoft Forms, in staff meetings or as a follow-up after a training session to check whether key learning has landed.

Who should use this full‑year safeguarding training pack?

This full-year safeguarding training pack is designed for DSLs and anyone with responsibility for planning and delivering ongoing safeguarding staff training in school. It is particularly useful for DSLs who want a complete, pre-planned safeguarding training programme they can pick up and use across the year, rather than sourcing, building or sequencing resources each half-term.

It works equally well for schools that are new to a drip-feed approach to safeguarding CPD and for those with an established training plan who need quality content to populate it. Deputy DSLs and deputy headteachers will also find it useful for supporting the DSL's training programme or for taking on delivery responsibilities within it.

Headteachers and trust safeguarding leads can use the pack to monitor coverage, strengthen safeguarding culture and ensure whole-school safeguarding training is consistent, evidenced and aligned to KCSIE 2026. The built-in training record and timetable make it straightforward to demonstrate an ongoing, structured approach to safeguarding CPD when speaking with governors or Ofsted.

How can this pack help DSLs plan and deliver safeguarding training across a full year?

Paragraph 12 of Keeping Children Safe in Education states:

“In addition [to receiving safeguarding training at induction], all staff should receive safeguarding and child protection (including online safety) updates (for example, via email, e-bulletins, and staff meetings), as required, and at least annually, to continue to provide them with relevant skills and knowledge to safeguard children effectively.”

This is why we’ve designed such a comprehensive training pack. Rather than delivering a single large training session to staff at the start of term where a long period of time can pass before safeguarding training is addressed again, this pack allows safeguarding leads to provide short, sharp bursts of incremental training that keeps staff knowledge fresh and puts safeguarding aspects at the forefront.

This pack is also designed to tackle the most common challenges DSLs face when trying to maintain effective, ongoing safeguarding training beyond the September INSET.

"How do I keep whole-school safeguarding training going beyond September without creating everything myself?"

Every resource in this full-year safeguarding training pack is ready to deliver. The PowerPoints are written to guide a session without requiring the DSL to be a safeguarding expert; the scenarios prompt discussion with no need for a presenter; the snapshots can be distributed via e-bulletin, displayed in staff areas or shared in briefings with minimal preparation. The guidance document gives practical delivery ideas for every resource type, so you are never starting from scratch.

"How do I make sure our safeguarding training covers the full range of KCSIE themes across the year?"

The six half-termly themes cover neglect, physical abuse, child-on-child abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse and child exploitation – a sequence that maps across the breadth of KCSIE 2026 Part One. Topics within each half-term have been cross-referenced to ensure coverage of areas sometimes missed in whole-school training, including FGM, modern slavery, filtering and monitoring and contextual safeguarding.

"How can I evidence that ongoing safeguarding training is happening throughout the year?"

The pack includes a pre-formatted safeguarding training record for logging delivery, dates and staff engagement, giving you a clear and auditable evidence trail. The suggested timetable helps you plan in advance, and the record helps you demonstrate that safeguarding CPD has been sustained across the year – which is exactly what Ofsted and governors expect to see.

"How do I make safeguarding training realistic and discussion-based, rather than just a presentation?"

The 30 safeguarding scenarios are fictional but realistic, written from a staff member's perspective so they feel genuinely recognisable. Each includes four guided discussion prompts covering current concerns, immediate next steps, further action and hindsight reflection. The 30 snapshots and 18 quizzes complement the scenarios by reinforcing knowledge in a varied, low-stakes way throughout each half-term.

"What if a particular safeguarding issue becomes relevant in our school mid-year?"

Resources do not need to be used in the suggested order. If an issue becomes live in your school or community – a county lines concern, a case involving child-on-child abuse, an emerging pattern of neglect – you can draw on the relevant scenario, snapshot or quiz from any half-term to address it immediately. The timetable is a guide, not a prescription.

"Is this full-year safeguarding training pack suitable for both primary and secondary schools?"

Yes. The pack is available in a primary version and a secondary version. The safeguarding scenarios are adapted for each phase to reflect realistic situations staff in that setting might encounter. Snapshots and quizzes are the same across both versions, reflecting that KCSIE 2026 applies equally to all schools. Some scenarios are written to work across both phases and do not specify children's ages.

Want to strengthen your safeguarding practice even further?

This pack gives you the ongoing safeguarding training element of your programme for the year. These resources support the wider picture.

Safeguarding Audit Pack – Once safeguarding training is embedded, a structured self-evaluation helps you assess the impact and identify gaps. The Safeguarding Audit Pack gives DSLs and headteachers a set of KCSIE-aligned tools to evaluate safeguarding leadership, practice and culture across the school.

Ready-Made Safeguarding Training Sets (Sets A–F) – If you want to supplement or extend the full-year pack with additional content, the individual Ready-Made Safeguarding Training Sets offer further scenarios, snapshots and quizzes on a flexible, half-term basis.
