What's in this Complete School Leadership Audit Pack?
Conducting comprehensive school self-evaluation requires systematic review across all key areas of provision. This complete audit pack provides editable tools to help headteachers and senior leadership teams assess their entire school with confidence as well as allowing for delegation across different areas of specialism.
The pack contains ten comprehensive and editable audit documents covering every aspect of school leadership. Each audit contains self-reflective questions that leaders can ask to evaluate their provision, plus practical ideas of where evidence can be found for ease of use. There's dedicated space to record your current position, including strengths and areas for development. Every audit is broken down into manageable subsections with the option at the end of each section to give a self-evaluation rating, helping you prioritise key areas for improvement across your school. The audits included mirror the Ofsted draft framework as follows:
🟣 Leadership and Governance Audit (37 pages) - Strategic leadership, governance practice, oversight and capacity for improvement
🟣 Curriculum Audit (29 pages) - Curriculum design, implementation, progression and impact across all subjects
🟣 Achievement Audit (25 pages) - Pupil outcomes, progress tracking, data analysis and closing achievement gaps
🟣 Developing Teaching Audit (27 pages) - Teaching quality, professional development, classroom practice and pedagogical effectiveness
🟣 Safeguarding Audit (43 pages) - Child protection procedures, safeguarding culture, staff training and compliance
🟣 Inclusion Audit (29 pages) - Inclusive practice, equality, diversity and meeting needs of all pupil groups
🟣 Behaviour and Attitudes Audit (35 pages) - Behaviour management, policies and procedures, pupil attitudes to learning and school culture

🟣 Attendance Audit (20 pages) - Attendance strategies, persistent absence, punctuality and engagement. An attendance strategy template and example letters are also included
🟣 Early Years Audit (31 pages) Primary version or Sixth Form Audit (20 pages) Secondary version - Age-appropriate provision evaluation
The each audit is accompanied by supporting resource to make the audit process smoother and easier, as well as saving you time. These include:
☑️ Tailored Action Plan templates - Prioritise improvements, assign responsibilities and track progress for each area
☑️ Document checklists - Ideas for gathering robust evidence base specific to each audit area
☑️ Comprehensive question banks - Editable questions for gathering feedback from staff, pupils, parents, carers, governors and trust leaders
☑️ One-page summary templates - Share key findings easily with SLT, governors, trustees and stakeholders
The pack also include 11-page PDF guidance on how to conduct audits effectively to help you plan and implement your audit process efficiently.
All resources come in editable Word format apart from the PDF guidance. Perfect for school self-evaluation, Ofsted preparation, improvement planning and governance oversight. A free update will follow when the final Ofsted 2025 framework is published in September.
Individual school leadership audits also available separately for targeted evaluation.
Who should use this pack to audit school provision?
Comprehensive school evaluation works best when it's shared strategically across leadership teams rather than being the responsibility of one person alone. This complete audit pack is designed for school leaders with oversight responsibilities who want to evaluate their entire provision systematically and delegate different areas effectively.
It will be most useful for headteachers, executive heads, principals, deputy heads and senior leadership teams who need to coordinate whole-school self-evaluation across multiple areas. Trust leaders overseeing multiple schools will find it valuable for building consistent evaluation approaches across their schools and identifying system-wide strengths and development priorities.
How to use this pack strategically:
Rather than simple checklists, these audits are designed for collaborative use across your leadership team. You might assign the Curriculum Audit to your curriculum leader working alongside aspiring middle leaders and subject coordinators, the Safeguarding Audit to your DSL with support from your safeguarding link governor, or the Inclusion Audit to your SENDCo supported by SEND specialists and pastoral staff. This team-based approach helps distribute the evaluation workload, develops leadership capacity across different levels, and builds comprehensive understanding whilst involving staff in meaningful professional development through the audit process.
It's perfect for:
- Whole-school self-evaluation cycles - Use different audits throughout the year to build comprehensive understanding
- Ofsted preparation - Systematic review aligned with the inspection framework
- Strategic improvement planning - Evidence-based identification of development priorities
- Leadership team development - Involve different leaders in evaluating their areas of expertise
- Trust-wide consistency - Standardised approach across multiple schools
- Governance reporting - Clear summaries and evidence for sharing with governors and trustees
Whether you're planning annual self-evaluation, preparing for inspection, reviewing provision quality, or coordinating strategic oversight in maintained schools, academies or multi-academy trusts, this pack provides structured questions, evidence prompts and rating systems to guide thorough, practical review across every key area of your school.
